Leo Joseph, often seen playing around town in Key Grip and the Groove Kings or at the ever popular Blues Piano Night, or at solo piano gigs and duo gigs with vocalist Angela Lount, has fulfilled a dream of recording a solo piano CD.
Called Highway 88, the CD will be officially launched at Beyond Q Bookshop Café in Brierly Street, Weston Arcade opposite Coolamon Court Weston Creek on Saturday March 24, from 4 to 6pm. All Canberra Blues Society members and friends are invited to come along to the launch and maybe even pick up a copy of the CD. The CD’s title, Highway 88, describes Leo’s far-from-finished journey up and down those 88 keys that hold so many hard-to-uncover secrets. Four of Leo’s original tunes are on the CD and one of them, Paralysed Dancer was written in 1984 about a trip to Alice Springs (well, you know, what Alice Springs was like not so much the train trip there!) and to which Leo added a long coda about 30 years later some time around 2012. Aside from Leo’s vocals on a few tracks, Angela Lount, lead vocalist from Key Grip, sings on two tracks and they both sing on one of Leo’s originals She Thinks That I Think.
The launch is being held at Beyond Q’s new digs in Weston Creek where Leo has received so much support from Simon and Jenni and all the great staff and volunteers there who have had Leo doing monthly solo gigs there for a few years now.
Leo hopes you can all come along and he hopes to have a few other piano playing guests there too!!!
